  • Overall route length: 194 km.
  • Duration: 6 days
  • Average number of travelers: from 4 to 10 pax.
  • For advanced skaters only. Participants are supposed to have their own skates.
  • Green Express Travel Group conducts organization and technical support.
  • Safety of the trip is guaranteed by the Emergency department of Irkutsk

Ice and skates � the words are indivisible. If the ice is good the skating expedition is sure to be great. The route takes in the parts of ice free of snow � the middle part of Baikal and a region of the Olkhon Island. The snowmobiles escort saves the participants from caring the belongings on the sledges.

Itinerary
March 19
Depart from Irkutsk early morning for our starting point - Buguldeika village that is located on the western side of lake Baikal. Lunch. Start North along the shoreline. Dinner and overnight in tents next to Krestovsky cape. Daily route 30 km. (L,D)
March 20
The goal of day 2 is Ulan-Nur cape. Daily route 30 km. Overnight in tents.
March 21
On this day the participants will reach the Olkhon island.
March 22
From now on our journey will run across the so called Small Sea � part of the lake locked in between the main land and Olkhon island. This one will be an easy day: from our last location you will skate across 2 picturesque bays to a cozy tour base Chara. Dinner, rest and overnight in log cabins. (B,L,D)
March 23 Skate north along the Small Sea basin. Lunch en route. Stop for overnight in Khizhir village � the capital of the islanders. Daily route 44 km. (B,L,D)
March 24 The last day of the expedition that ends at the northern most point of Olkhon island. Overnight in home stay. Daily route 40 km. (B,L,D)
March 25 Depart for Irkutsk.

Notes:

  1. Accommodations in Irkutsk, assistance upon arrival and departure are provided on request.
  2. The itinerary is due to change to the weather factor, ice conditions, physical condition of the participants or emergency factors. For every extra day on the route an additional payment is charged.
  3. Full board en-route.
  4. To save time during the day lunch will be served with dry food and hot tea or coffee.
  5. The volume and weight of the personal belongings of the team members are to be negotiated via correspondence.
  6. For technical support we provide trucks or durable �Buran� snowmobiles that are equipped with spacious sledges for carrying food, camping gear and personal belongings of the participants.
  7. Participants are responsible for their own outwear and gear such as skates, warm jackets appropriate footwear and other things. It�s desirable that participants have their own sleeping bags.
  8. The route itinerary as well as all gear and outfit are state-certified for safety standards. The crew and guide guarantee your personal safety.
  9. All kitchen accessories are provided
  10. The expected day temperature is -10C, but at night it can fall as low as �20C.
  11. Overnights are planned in log cabins or guesthouses as well as in a big tent that is heated by firewood stove.
  12. Satellite telephone for emergency cases
  13. The senior guide of Green Express Travel Company is appointed as the leader of the expedition.
  14. Since the senior guide of Green Express Travel Company is responsible for the lives and safety of the team, he is authorized to change or even cancel the trip in case of serious danger or disease of one of the participants. Such decisions are negotiated with the team, but the senior guide has the final word.

Cost includes:

  • Transfers as described in the itinerary;
  • Accommodations on tour bases and home stay as
    described in the itinerary;
  • Rent of snowmobiles or trucks;
  • Professional guide assistance from Green Express
  • All meals described;
  • Insurance.

Cost does not include:
International and internal airfare; passport and visa fees; airport taxes; excess baggage charges; accommodations and meals in Irkutsk, skates and sleeping bags, photography and video fees; food and beverages not included in the group meals; tips to drivers or guides; items of a personal nature, including alcoholic beverages, laundry and telephone calls; optional tours; other items not specifically mentioned as included.
