Ice-Sailing Lake Khovsgol in Mongolia

This expedition is a logical sequel of the exploration of the great Asian lakes by ice yachts. Last year the international team of ice yachtsmen from Switzerland and Russia crossed ice surface of Baikal from the South to the North. This year the initiators of the last year expedition are going to Mongolia to lake Khovsgol and are glad to meet new sportsmen who would like to join them.

Itinerary
March 15
Meeting at Irkutsk railway station. Transfer to hotel. Check in hotel. Lunch. After lunch meet your guides that will introduce your guides that will introduce you to details of the expedition. Time to pack the equipment and gear into a truck. Dinner. Overnight.
March 16
Early start. Transfer by van to Mondy settlement (300 km away from Irkutsk). Lunch en-route in a cafe. Arrive at about 3 p.m. to the Russian Mongolian boarder. 2 hours for customs formalities. Transfer to Khankh settlement that is located at the north-eastern side of lake Khuvsgol. Dinner and Overnight.
March 17
Early breakfast. Time to assemble the ice-yachts and pack up the food and gear on to the sleds and snowmobiles. Lunch-time. START.
The first day trip that is about 70 km long. Sail south-east to Zhiglik settlement. Dinner and overnight in a tent on the ice of the lake.
March 18
Breakfast in camp. Packing up. Sail south to Khatgal settlement � the Northen most point of lake Khovsgol. Lunch en-route. Stop for overnight in a tour camp (Mongolian gers or log-cabins).
March 19 Two full days for returning back to the starting point of the expedition � Khankh village. Festive Dinner. Overnight.
March 20 - 21 One day in reserve for bad weather conditions. This day can be used for alternative excursions to Darkhatskaya depression � the lost world of East Sayan mountains that�s known as the land of southern most caribou and Northern most camels.
March 22 Packing up equipment. Transfer back to Irkutsk. Lunch en-route. Arrival late in the evening. Check-in hotel. Overnight.

Notes:

  1. Terms and duration of the expedition can change due to the weather factor and the ice condition. The dates will be fixed before the 25 of February.
  2. The advance payment that constitutes 20% of the total cost of the tour is to be transferred before the 1-st of March.
  3. The itinerary is due to change to the weather factor, ice conditions, physical condition of the participants or emergency factors. For every extra day on the route an additional payment is charged.
  4. Most of the overnights are planned in log cabins or Mongolian gers, but the participants should be ready to spend overnights in tents.
  5. Participants are responsible for their own outwear, including warm jackets appropriate footwear and other things. It�s desirable that participants have their own sleeping bags.
  6. The expected day temperature is 0+10C, but at night it can fall as low as �25C.
  7. Full board en-route.
  8. To save time during the day lunch will be served with dry food and hot tea or coffee. The senior guide of Green Express Travel Company is appointed as the leader of the expedition.
  9. The volume and weight of the personal belongings of the team members are to be negotiated via correspondence.
  10. In case of serious obstacles or considerable disruption of the schedule the snowmobiles will tow the ice-yachts.
  11. The expedition is supported by snowmobiles with special sledges to carry food, equipment and firewood as well as personal backpacks.
  12. All kitchen accessories gas stoves are provided
  13. Satellite telephone for emergency cases
  14. Since the senior guide of Green Express Travel Company is responsible for the lives and safety of the team, he is authorized to change or even cancel the trip in case of serious danger or disease of one of the participants. Such decisions are negotiated with the team, but the senior guide has the final word.

Cost includes:

  • Transfers as described in the itinerary;

  • Professional guide assistance from the Emergency department
  • All meals described;
  • All excursions, entrance fees, and visits as described in itinerary;

Cost does not include:
International and internal airfare; passport and visa fees; medical and trip insurance; evacuation costs; airport taxes; excess baggage charges; photography and video fees; food and beverages not included in the group meals; tips to drivers or guides; items of a personal nature, including alcoholic beverages, laundry and telephone calls; optional tours; other items not specifically mentioned as included.
